Credit By Work Experience Portfolio/Interview Expectations


  • Has a portfolio been prepared that: 
    • Is professional in appearance.  Examples:  documents are titled, tabbed, placed in a binder.
    • Meets communication guidelines.  Examples:  documents adhere to spelling and grammatical conventions.
    • Includes a description of the tasks completed by the student that demonstrate completion of the competencies required.  See lists below.
    • Includes documentation of the hours worked.
    • Includes artifacts that further substantiate the task and work performance.  Examples:  copies of performance reviews, project management documents, copies of help tickets, etc.
    • Includes a resume.
    • Includes a cover letter.
    • Includes employer verification of the work hours and tasks documented.  Examples:  verification on letterhead substantiating employer review of the portfolio or appropriate task list is preferred.
  • Has the student met the necessary requirements: 
    • 320 hours of work within the past two years
    • completed at least 40% of their work completing program specific tasks
  • Did the employer(s) verify the work.  The instructor reviewing the packet should make a call to the listed employer.
  • If a mock interview was conducted (optional), did the student interview professionally.  See interview checklist.

Network Specialist Internship Tasks

·        File Server Hardware

·        Research or specify hardware requirements

·        Set File Server or install component upgrades

·        Troubleshoot File Server hardware problems

·        Network Cable, NICs, Hubs, Routers, Switches, etc.

·        Research or specify hardware requirements

·        Install or upgrade network components

·        Troubleshoot network component hardware problems

·        Workstation Operating Systems (Windows 9X, NT, Mac, DOS, etc.)

·        Install or configure workstation operating systems

·        Install or configure network client software

·        Troubleshoot workstation operating system problems

·        Network Applications

·        Install applications on File Servers

·        Install networked applications on user workstations

·        Troubleshoot problems with networked applications

·        Administer Network Accounts

·        Create or modify user accounts on a File Server

·        Assign user access to File Server resources

·        Network Management

·        Monitor or analyze network traffic

·        Perform File Server backups

·        Troubleshoot network outages or bottlenecks

·        Configure router or switches

·        Internet Site Administration
